Bridget Kearney, ex Inchinnan
Bridget 'Biddy' Kearney, age 16, from Ballina, was sent to Maitland after her arrival in Sydney on the Inchinnan. She was hired by James Quegan for 4 years at £8pa.
However, ten months later Bridget Kearney's relationship with her employer had deteriorated, and James Quegan approached the court to have the indentures cancelled, as she “had latterly become insolent to her mistress, and had refused to obey her orders”. It was reported in the Maitland Mercury, 23 January 1850, that “Kearney also wished to leave her service”, and the indentures were cancelled. What happened to Bridget Kearney after this event has not been confirmed. |
